Gue, gui, que, qui

The new spelling rules affected my classes yesterday for the first time. I had to explain that gue, gui, que and qui have each two pronunciations (since we haven't used the ¨since January 1 anymore) and that the foreign learner can't know when to say them one way and when to say them another way. In the past I've only had to explain the intricacies of the x, now there's a bigger mess in the language, of which I felt a little ashamed as if it had been my fault.
