Walk

I thought the words špacír (Czech), spacer (Polish), spazieren (German), spaziare (Italian) and espairecer (Portuguese) might be related, but it turns out that all except espairecer are. The Czech and the Polish words come from German, which comes from Italian, which, in turn, comes from Latin spatiari (to spread out). Espairecer is said to be made up of es + pairar + ecer, and pairar comes from Provençal pairar, meaning to abide, to bear, to be patient.
