Habían huellas

en la arena habían huellas de herraduras sulla sabbia c'erano tracce di ferri di cavallo (there were horseshoe prints in the sand)  The misuse of the verb haber in the plural is so widespread in Spanish (also in Portuguese with the verb haver) that even a Spanish-Italian dictionary has it.
