In the book Words words words, David Crystal mentions a few proverbs around the world involving words. I am curious about their original renditions, but haven't succeeded in finding them:
Words have no boundaries. (Bulgarian)
Cloth shrinks, words still more. (Russian)
A good word does much, but doesn't fill the fasting. (Norwegian)
The only one among the languages with which I'm familiar that I was able to locate is this:
Words are good, but hens lay eggs.
In German: Worte sind gut, aber Hühner legen Eier.
