The words berinjela (Portuguese), melanzana (Italian), patlıcan (Turkish) all mean eggplant/aubergine and don't look much alike, but all of them (except eggplant, of course) come from Hispanic Arabic baḏinǧána, which in turn comes from classic Arabic bāḏinǧānah, which comes Farsi bātingān), as this source indicates. A few other cognates are found here.
More about berinjela/beringela here. I use berinjela because it's how I normally see it spelled and also because it has the j, just like Spanish berenjena.
