Quarter

Funny how some languages have taken a word from their ordinal number meaning fourth, quarter, and changed into something to mean a quarter (there you go again), a district, a neighborhood. We thus find quarter in English, quartier in Franch, quartiere in Italian, Viertel in German, čtvrť in Czech, štvrť in Slovak, negyed in Hungarian, cartier in Romanian. Portugueses has quarteirão, which, surprise of all surprises, means block, as in to walk so many blocks to get somewhere.
