I have encountered so far only three languages that have two words for church. Church as a building is described as kostel in Czech, as templom in Hungarian and as kilise in Turkish. Church as an institution is referred to in Czech with církev, in Hungarian with egyház, which, if you break down, means one (egy) house (ház), but I don't know if this makes any sense, and in Turkish with mezhep.
A casa única dos húngaros talvez esteja relacionada com a idéia de católico (universal). Mas é só um chute...
ReplyDeleteone (egy) house (ház)
ReplyDeleteI think this means the house of God. "One" is often a reference to the monotheistic God.
